Global Peace Convention 2010      

A preeminent assembly of leaders from government, civil society, and faith-based organizations, the Global Peace Convention is an important opportunity to consolidate and advance the successes of Global Peace Festivals that have drawn more than a million peace-minded citizens on six continents since 2007.

The 2010 Global Peace Convention (GPC) will be convened November 17-20 in Nairobi, Kenya, as the culmination of four regional Global Peace Festivals in South Asia (Nepal), Southeast Asia (Indonesia), Latin America (Paraguay), and Africa (Kenya). The 2010 Convention will be held at the Kenyatta International Conference Center, and Kenyan President Hon. Mwai Kibaki has agreed to act as Patron, while Kenyan Prime Minister Hon. Raila Odinga will act as Patron of the Festival.

The Global Peace Festival Foundation (GPFF) has also named Anglican Church of Kenya Archbishop Eliud Wabukala, corporate leader and philanthropist Dr. Manu Chandaria, and Founding President of Seychelles Sir James Mancham as Co-Chairs of the Convention.

As a project of the GPFF, the Global Peace Convention is expanding peacebuilding capacity through a wide array of global partners including IBM International Foundation, United Nations HABITAT, Usher’s New Look Foundation, Kenya's Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, among many others.

At the first Global Peace Convention in December 2009, five hundred leaders from twenty-eight nations convened in Manila, presenting cutting-edge developments in providing critical-care, building public and private-sector partnerships, and marshalling sustainable responses to underdevelopment. A delegation of 134 leaders from 28 countries traveled to war-torn Mindanao where they observed firsthand the efforts of the GPFF’s Mindanao Peace Initiative to bring warring factions into dialogue and reconciliation.

The 2010 Convention will highlight recent advances in Kenya, where multi-sector partnerships, with the support of tens of thousands of volunteers, have undertaken a large-scale restoration of the endangered Nairobi River. The Convention will highlight educational and sports programs across the country that are supporting the efforts of Kenya’s many ethnic peoples to create an environment of peace as a model for Africa in the twenty-first century.
