GPFF Leadership Academy Pilot Program Backs Volunteer Mobilization

More than 300 volunteers from area businesses and organizations honored the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by dedicating a day of service at Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School on Monday. 

"Dr. King's legacy is actually a lifestyle, a way of life. The main motto we're emphasizing is everybody can be great because everybody can serve," said Kimihira Miyake, a spokesperson for the Global Peace Festival Foundation, which helped organize the service projects.

What We Do

The Global Peace Festival Foundation (GPFF) promotes and celebrates persons and programs that contribute to reconciliation, mutual respect, harmony and cooperation among all people, as ‘One Family Under God’. Through partnerships with organizations around the world, GPFF programs and celebrations work to facilitate intercultural and interreligious cooperation, strengthen families and communities, and foster a culture of service and peace.
 

Family Strengthening Initiatives

GPFF has launched the Strengthening Families & Communities Coalition – Atlanta together with the expertise of US Dept of Health and Human Services’ Administration for Children and Families in Region IV and 40 other prominent organizations in communities including and surrounding Atlanta.

Youth and Sports Initiatives

 

The International Young Leaders Summit (IYLS) is an annual gathering of current and future leaders from government, civil society, and faith-based organizations committed to transcending cultural and religious boundaries and developing an agenda for sustainable peace. The IYLS 2010 was convened in Nairobi, Kenya on November 17-21.

 

Interfaith Partnerships for Conflict Resolution and Peace-Building

GPFF and its partners are highly committed to resolving conflict and building genuine and sustained collaboration, especially based on common cause among faith leaders rooted in universal principles and values.

Tree Planting and Reforestation

In many developing nations, the lack of effective natural resources management has led to deforestation and consequent environmental problems. GPFF Kenya and its partners have undertaken a plan to plant one million trees, thereby encouraging concerned Kenyans from all walks of life to take small but concrete steps to address their country’s environmental problems. In Paraguay, the Global Peace Foundation chapter there is working in partnership with A Todo Pulmon and other organizations to provide logistical support and volunteers in a campaign to plant 10,000 trees in Asuncion.

Because education is vital to empowering all people, GPFF engages in significant initiatives in leadership education, character education, and peace education. These include:

The International Young Leaders Summit (IYLS) is an annual international conference of young leaders and professionals, dedicated to the development of a peaceful world and a prosperous environment for human development.

Nairobi River Peace Initiative

The Nairobi River is emblematic of a changing continent. Africa’s natural wonders and diverse cultural traditions form an important part of the world’s heritage. Many of Africa’s environmental challenges have arisen in the context of growing urbanization, weakening of traditional socializing institutions—notably the extended family—and ethnic divisions exacerbated by political instability.
